Alliage d'étain, d'antimoine et de cuivre employé comme garniture pour les coussinets et pour les paliers des moteurs techniques ainsi que pour toutes pièces frottantes afin d'atténuer les effets du frottement des organes de machines en mouvement :
• 1. Dans la scie à grumes comme dans la scie à ruban, un guide encadre la scie : il est renforcé, garni de métal antifriction...

Rem. Dans l'emploi subst., Lar. 19e, LITTRÉ, GUÉRIN 1892, Nouv. Lar. ill. et QUILLET 1965 le font du fém., ainsi que ROB. et Lar. encyclop. Les premiers avaient considéré le mot dans sa fonction de 2e terme de syntagme, et lui gardaient ainsi son genre étymol.; les seconds le considèrent dans son emploi de syntagme réduit au second terme représentant le syntagme entier, et lui donnent alors le genre du 1er terme (métal, système), disparu par ell. Le masc. l'a emporté.
B.— MÉCAN. Système (d')antifriction. Système ayant pour but de diminuer dans une machine les frottements entre les différents organes et la perte de travail qui en résulte.
